About Physiotherapy in Oncology and Palliative Care

The Association of Chartered Physiotherapists in Oncology and Palliative Care (ACPOPC) are a professional network of physiotherapists working in oncology and palliative care based in the UK. We are recognised by the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy (CSP) as a group of experts in our area of practice and work with the CSP to influence their decision making. We are also members of the subgroup of World Physiotherapy, International Physical Therapists for HIV/AIDS, Oncology, Hospice and Palliative Care (IPT-HOPE).

Our mission and vision are as follows:

Mission: To provide professional support, advocate for and promote the role of physiotherapists working in oncology and palliative care.

Vision: For physiotherapists to be viewed as core members of all Oncology and Palliative Care teams and be integral in strategic decision making.

Our mission and vision have the overall aim of improving the care and quality of life for people living with cancer and palliative care diagnoses.

We work with a number of partner organisations to work towards our strategic vision, for example in recent years we have worked with Health Education England, the National Palliative and End of Life Care Partnership and Macmillan Cancer Support.

We are always keen to make further connections with organisations with whom we share common goals, please do not hesitate to get in contact with us.

We are also eager to provide practical advice and guidance both to physiotherapists not specialising in cancer or palliative care and to other healthcare professionals about what physiotherapy can achieve for people living with cancer and palliative care diagnoses. The following links are to publically available documents on a range of topics, including relevant guidelines. Some resources are available to members only. If you have a question that is not answered by any of the links below, please do not hesitate to contact us and we will do our best to answer your query.

If you are a member of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy you will have access to the interactive CSP (iCSP) function. There is a specific iCSP network for Oncology & Palliative Care which you can sign up to link with other physiotherapy staff working in your specific field.
