ACPOPC committee members Natasha and Khai attended the 34th CSP Annual Representative Conference (ARC), which was held in Manchester on the 3rd-4th of June 2025.

What is ARC, and why is ACPOPC attending?

ARC refers to the Annual Representatives Conference. Colleagues affiliated with the CSP- including stewards, safety and equality reps, professional networks, country boards, regional networks, student reps, associates’ network, diversity networks and Retirement Association- send delegates to ARC to move and debate motions of importance to the profession. ACPOPC, as one of CSP’s professional networks, is eligible to send delegates and vote for motions at ARC- and we feel that it is important to attend to help advocate for our members.

What happens at ARC?

Motions- The main agenda for the conference was moving and voting for motions. Motions are put forth by different bodies within the CSP, which are debated and voted on. ACPOPC did not propose any motions this year, however both Natasha and Khai participated within some of the motions’ debates.

The motions are advisory in nature; motions which are passed are put to CSP Council. The council will then publish a report about the decisions it takes regarding the motions. This is expected to be published around September to October 2025, and we will publish information about this here.

Speech- We also heard from Ruth Jones MP, who spoke as a physiotherapist-turned-member of parliament. She spoke on the endless potential and transferability of skills learnt as a physiotherapist.

Reps of the year award- Representatives do significant work both locally and nationally. Every year, their work is celebrated at ARC. An award is provided for exceptional contribution towards stewardship, representatives, equality and student networks.

Fringe meetings- There were breakout rooms to discuss four really interesting topics:

  1.  The role of healthcare workers in conflict zones
  2. Empowering conversations: addressing fascism and fostering allyship
  3. Shaping Tomorrow’s Story Today
  4. FCP- The way forward and how unions can help
